The Valleys

I have so much to learn

And my growth is very slow,

Sometimes I need the mountaintops,

But it's in the valleys I grow.

~Jane Eggleston

“As the cattle which go down into the valley, the Spirit of the Lord gave them rest. So You led Your people, to make for Yourself a glorious name.” ~Isaiah 63:14

When we are at our lowest point, the valley, the Holy Spirit gives us rest. Why? How? Because we trust in Him (Psalm 9:10). We forget in our turmoil, that God will make us lie in green pastures, (Psalm 23:2) and wants only good for us (Jeremiah 29:11).

For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer. 1 Timothy 4:4-5

Here in the valley, He, the Good Shepherd, leads us to make Himself a glorious name.

Mountaintop experiences are wonderful, but temporal, you can’t live there. This verse makes me rethink the need for them.
