Mise En Place
Cooks use this technique to make a meal possible and on time. This writer does the same. Tools: Two pens (Black and Red), two Composition notebooks, laptop, mouse/pad, phone with music on, and drink. Venn diagrams, flow charts, and basic outline with pictures to illustrate all take time to build and shift. The prep time when writing is half the battle. These ingredients didn't clean and sort themselves, and the meal would be incomplete not only in entirety but also in flavor. A story can't be cultivated because I know one thing about one character. The adventure will be complete not only because the question/problem is solved, but because you've come to know the characters inside and out.
